Mitchell asked the Minister for Education and Science, further to the inaccurate answer given to Parliamentary Question No. 580 of 30 September 2003, if he will treat the request for funding with the greatest urgency in view of the very high cost to the parents of buying this service privately. I apologise for the inaccurate information provided in my reply of 30 September 2003. I will be communicating with the parent of the pupil in question shortly to explain how the misunderstanding occurred. In the interim, I am pleased to inform the Deputy that in light of additional information provided, my Department has sanctioned a full-time special needs assistant for the pupil. A letter to this effect issued to the school authority on 9 October 2003.
