Vol. 572 No. 3

Written Answers. - Communications Masts.

Seán Crowe

Question:

327 Mr. Crowe asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources if Tallaght will be included in the national survey of public exposure to phone mast radio emissions being carried out by the Commission for Communications Regulation. [22917/03]

The Commission for Communications Regulation, COMREG, has recently commenced a national survey of 400 communication sites, which will include mobile phone base stations. The purpose of the national survey is to ensure that the emissions from these sites are within the guidelines set by the International Commission for Non-Ionising Radiation Protection. There are six communication sites in the Tallaght area where measurements are to occur. The commission will publish the results of the national survey on its website, including those of Tallaght.

On 23 May 2003 the commission placed an advertisement in the national press inviting public nomination of sites. In response, South Dublin County Council has been in contact with the Commission for Communications Regulation nominating sites in the Tallaght area.
