Vol. 572 No. 3

Written Answers. - Health Board Services.

Seymour Crawford

Question:

341 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of health boards which provide taxi assistance to those in need of such service for urgent and emergency health reasons to hospitals or clinics; his views on the fact that those living in rural areas where no bus services are available and who depend solely on social welfare for their income can find themselves in a very vulnerable position and often through neglect or inability to travel finish up needing full-time care; if part of his funding towards the health boards can be earmarked for this purpose in 2004; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22804/03]

The information requested by the Deputy is not routinely collected by my Department. My Department has, therefore, asked the chief executive officer of each health board and the regional chief executive of the Eastern Regional Health Authority to investigate the position regarding the matters raised by the Deputy and to respond to him directly.
