Vol. 572 No. 3

Written Answers. - Departmental Records.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

398 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Transport if his Department has a corporate policy, a departmental strategy and an electronic docu ment and record management system in place in connection with electronic records; the system in place to preserve electronic records for the future; and if this system allows for the easy searching of records in order to comply with the requirements of and the implementation of the freedom of information legislation and the relevant National Archives legislation. [22837/03]

I refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 1063 of 30 September 2003 which set out the position as regards policy. In the reply, I stated that I have asked my Department to examine moving to a permanent electronic record system and to advise me of the feasibility of same and report back to me. It would be my intention that such a system, if implemented, would allow for the easy searching of records and would comply with any procedures proposed by the National Archives in respect of electronically created documents.
