Vol. 572 No. 3

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Finian McGrath

Question:

475 Mr. F. McGrath asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if a further detailed response will be issued with regard to a query (details supplied) on anti-social activities in Fairview Park, Dublin 3; and if this matter will be dealt with urgently. [23300/03]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that a complaint was made to the local gardaí to the effect that youths were harassing a group of females who were football training in Fairview Park. Gardaí in an unmarked patrol car responded and patrolled the park. I understand that they were not approached by any persons and did not observe anything untoward occurring in the park.

I note from the details supplied with this question that the person in question has made a formal complaint to the Garda Síochána Complaints Board, which is currently the independent statutory body to investigate complaints by members of the public against the gardaí. As the board is independent in the performance of its functions it would therefore be inappropriate for me to comment any further on the specific incident referred to.

As the Deputy will recall, I dealt with the policing arrangements for Fairview Park in my reply to Parliamentary Question No. 1238 of 30 September 2003.
