Written Answers. - Departmental Staff.

John McGuinness

Question:

512 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government when the position of constable was created at Kilkenny Castle; the date the new position was advertised; the number who attended for interview; the number of years of experience within Dúchas of the successful candidate; the sites the person is responsible for; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23274/03]

A vacancy for a parks constable arose in May 2002. The post was advertised internally within the then Department of Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands by notice of 8 May 2002. Invitations to interview were also extended to external candidates who had sought such employment in the past. There was only one internal applicant, who withdrew prior to interview. Seven external candidates attended, one of whom withdrew at interview. The successful candidate had no prior service with my Department. His assignment relates solely to Kilkenny Castle Park.
