Vol. 572 No. 3

Written Answers. - Derelict Sites.

Arthur Morgan

Question:

515 Mr. Morgan asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government the number of acres of derelict land in the State in total and in each local authority area; and if details regarding these sites will be made available, including location and the name of the landowner in each case. [23284/03]

My Department does not have detailed or aggregated information on the extent of derelict land in the State. Under the Derelict Sites Act 1990, local authorities are required to maintain a derelict sites register, which includes the name and address of each owner and occupier, where these can be ascertained by reasonable inquiry, of any land which in the opinion of the local authority, is a derelict site. The register is kept at the offices of the local authority and is available for inspection at the offices of the local authority during office hours.
