Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government the EU directives relevant to his Department which are awaiting implementation; the nature of the directives; when each was passed by the Council of Ministers; the date for implementation; if the Government sought a derogation; and if he will meet the deadline as required. [23349/03]
Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government (Mr. Cullen): Details of the EU directives for which my Department is responsible and which are awaiting transposition are set out in the following table. No derogations have been sought in respect of these directives.
In the case of Directive 2000/53/EC, the April 2002 transposition requirements have been provided for in the Protection of the Environment Act 2003.
Work on the five directives which are overdue for transposition is ongoing and will be completed as soon as possible. My Department intends to transpose the other directives in the table, including the balance of the requirements in the end-of-life vehicles directive, by the stated transposition deadline in each case.
