Vol. 572 No. 3

Written Answers. - Voluntary Sector.

519.
Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs his proposals regarding the concerns of Pavee Point Travellers Centre regarding the implementation of the White Paper on voluntary activity (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22921/03]
Minister of State at the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs (Mr. N. Ahern): The White Paper on a Framework for Supporting Voluntary Activity and for Developing the Relationship between the State and the Community and Voluntary Sector states the Government's long-term strategy to develop and support the community and voluntary sector. It sets out the rationale for developing the relationship between the State and the sector and the principles which should underpin this relationship.
I recently announced the results of two major White Paper funding schemes – the scheme to support the role of federations, networks and umbrella bodies in the community and voluntary sector and the scheme for training and supports in the community and voluntary sector, which will direct €7.4 million to support almost 60 organisations in the sector over the coming three years.
