Vol. 572 No. 5

Adjournment Debate. - Special Educational Needs.

123.
Ms Enright asked the Minister for Education and Science the supports he has sanctioned for a person (details supplied) in County Offaly with special needs who has graduated from Colby Special School, Portlaoise after only two years of mainstream education, and has been transferred to day service; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23821/03]

I wish to inform the Deputy that the health authorities have overall responsibility for provision for young adults over 18 years of age with special needs. My Department provides funding towards the education component of such provision.

I understand that correspondence was forwarded to the special education section of my Department on 24 September regarding funding provision for the person in question. This request is being considered at present and a decision will be conveyed at the earliest possible date.
