Vol. 572 No. 5

Adjournment Debate. - Waste Management.

Jan O'Sullivan

Question:

26 Ms O'Sullivan asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government the progress made to date in regard to his consideration of the report of the Health Research Board study commissioned by his Department into the likely effects of landfill and thermal treatment; the specific steps he intends to take to deal with the finding in the report that Ireland has insufficient resources to carry out adequate risk assessments for proposed waste management facilities; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23604/03]

I refer to the reply to Question No. 105 of 17 June 2003. My Department is involved in detailed discussions with the Department of Health and Children and the Environmental Protection Agency in this regard. I will be in a position to comment further on the matter once these discussions have concluded.
