29 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government if he will put in place a programme of support for anaerobic digestion projects; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23638/03]
The regional waste management plans adopted by local authorities provide for the introduction of modern integrated waste collection services and treatment facilities. As part of this network of facilities, the plans call for the development of biological treatment capacity. Capital grant assistance is available towards the development of such projects and since November 2002 I have allocated approximately €3.92 million from the environment fund towards the provision of nine composting facilities. I intend to announce further allocations as projects are developed.
