Vol. 572 No. 5

Adjournment Debate. - Flood Relief.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

87 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance if his attention has been drawn to the existing or potential flooding threats in the region of Rye catchment area at Kilcock, County Kildare; if it is intended to undertake remedial works thereat; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23782/03]

The Commissioners of Public Works have received no reports from the local authority regarding flooding in the Kilcock area and have no proposals to carry out any flood relief works there.

The Office of Public Works has, for a number of years, carried out maintenance works on the River Rye at Kilcock, on behalf of the Department of Agriculture and Food. In 2001 maintenance works were carried out on the stretch of river from Moyglare, downstream of Kilcock, to Ballyfeaghan Bridge, upstream of Kilcock and in 2002 the stretch from Ballyfeaghan Bridge to Aghan was cleaned. A recent inspection showed that no maintenance works are required in the Rye river area at present.
