Vol. 572 No. 5

Adjournment Debate. - School Staffing.

Billy Timmins

Question:

106 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Education and Science if the Protection of Employees (Part-Time Work) Act 2001 applies to part-time teachers, including pro-rata contracted teachers, non casual part-time teachers and casual part-time teachers; the implications this has for their pay; if all schools have implemented this; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23675/03]

My Department is currently engaged in discussions with the school management bodies and the teacher unions on the implementation of the Protection of Employees (Part-time Work) Act 2001, as it relates to the categories of teacher to which the Deputy refers. Agreement has already been reached in relation to rates of pay for the categories in question. It is intended that following conclusion of these discussions, a circular letter will issue to schools setting out the arrangements applicable to the teachers in question.
