Vol. 573 No. 1

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

Richard Bruton

Question:

189 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science the progress which has been made in implementing the initiative for a second level programme for children with Asperger's syndrome; if a package of supports has been agreed with the participating school on Dublin's northside; and when the programme will be fully operational. [24452/03]

My Department is actively engaged in pursuing the development of a second-level programme for children with Asperger's syndrome on Dublin's northside. A school has indicated its agreement in principle to host the proposed unit. Further discussions are being arranged to address issues relating to accommodation needs and the levels of teaching and other supports required by the school in order to facilitate this development.
