Vol. 573 No. 1

Written Answers. - Departmental Staff.

Paudge Connolly

Question:

140 Mr. Connolly asked the Minister for Defence the number of public service cuts proposed for his Department in 2004; the areas in which such proposed cuts will be effected; if they are likely to be at lower or higher levels; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24505/03]

The following reductions in authorised numbers are due to be implemented by my Department in 2004: Civil Service, six; civilian employees employed with the Defence Forces, 40; and Permanent Defence Force, 88. It is expected that the reductions will be implemented in so far as it is practicable across a variety of grades.
