Adjournment Debate Matters.

An Leas-Cheann Comhairle

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Callanan – to discuss the recent hardship and problems such as pollution to the river which is the source for the Gort water scheme and also the devastation already caused by the landslide at Derrybrien and fears of further landslides; (2) Deputy Costello – the need for the Minister to ensure the Irish film and television industry is promoted and the jobs of workers protected through retention of the section 481 tax incentives; (3) Deputy Ring – to ask the Minister to exempt elected representatives from having to pay the fee for third party FOI requests and why was it deemed necessary to make charges for FOI requests; (4) Deputy Connaughton – the landslide at Derrybrien, County Galway and to seek a commitment from the Government that it will provide adequate funding to financially help a small community in the west which is under siege and experiencing huge anxiety for its future; (5) Deputy Cowley – to ask the Minister if she can justify the cut of 50% in the number of participants in the MS community employment scheme which covers counties Mayo, Roscommon and Galway and provides an essential service for MS sufferers in these counties, given that cutting back the scheme by 50% will mean insufficient staffing resulting in a failure to provide essential services for this vulnerable group of MS sufferers; as the seven participants who will be laid off are all MS suf ferers and no other employment will be available to them because of their disability, how can she justify her actions; if she will consider introducing a new category for CE which will allow people with disabilities, those over 55 years of age and those in long-term unemployment to remain on the scheme; and if she will indicate whether she favours such a change, particularly in the light of a rumoured review of the present criteria for CE schemes; (6) Deputy McGuinness – the position in relation to the compensation claim relative to the construction of N9-N10 at Maddoxtown, Kilree, County Kilkenny; (7) Deputy Morgan – the necessity to address the critical situation at Scoil Uí Mhuirí in Dunleer, County Louth; (8) Deputy McHugh – the matter of the Derrybrien landslides in County Galway; (9) Deputy Cregan – the proposed sale and replacement of small rural Garda stations by the Office of Public Works and the need to have Galbally Garda station in County Limerick retained in its present state due to the good condition of same and available living quarters for a member of the Garda Síochána; (10) Deputy O'Sullivan – the implications for the criminal justice system of the collapse of a murder trial of a Limerick man in the Central Criminal Court after a sixth witness denied making a statement identifying the accused man as the killer and the need for the allocation of additional gardaí for Limerick to counter criminal activity there; (11) Deputy Neville – the response to the inspector of mental hospitals report for the year ending 31 December 2002; (12) Deputy Burton – the growing crisis of policing in Dublin West and the apparent immunity of criminals from the law as evidenced by recent crimes.

The matters raised by Deputies Morgan, McGuinness, Neville and Burton have been selected for discussion.
