Vol. 573 No. 3

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

John Cregan

Question:

331 Mr. Cregan asked the Minister for Education and Science the outcome of an appeal by a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny to have resource teaching approved for their child. [25081/03]

My Department considered an application for resource teaching support for the pupil referred to by the Deputy. On 8 April 2003, the school was advised that no resource could be approved as the application did not meet the eligibility criteria set out in the relevant Department circular.

I understand that the parent has since submitted additional information in support of the application. The application will be re-considered along with applications for special educational supports received between 14 February and 31 August 2003. The process involves an examination of each application and supporting documentation by a dedicated team of inspectors and psychologists. The school concerned will be informed of the outcome as early as possible in the current school year.
