Vol. 573 No. 3

Written Answers. - Recycling Policy.

Ciarán Cuffe

Question:

720 Mr. Cuffe asked the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs the overall figure within his Department for the percentages, quantities and costs of recycled and non-recycled paper and paper products used by his Department in the last period for which figures are available; and the plans his Department has to increase its use of recycled paper and paper products, and cut down on the use of non-recycled paper and paper products. [25434/03]

I refer the Deputy to my response to Question No. 446 of 4 February 2003. Since that date, my Department has spent approximately €13,000 on stationery items such as letterheads – 76,000 – business cards – 3,250 – complimentary slips – 27,000 and envelopes 88,000. All of this material was produced from 100% recycled material.

During the same period my Department has also spent approximately €7,000 on 210 boxes of photocopying or printer paper, which is not made from recycled material.

Within the constraints of the arrangements made by the Government Supplies Agency and value for money considerations, my Department seeks to make use of recycled paper products to the greatest extent possible.
