185 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the number of jobs which were lost in County Donegal in the week beginning 20 to 24 October 2003; the measures she will take in response; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [25239/03]
The number of redundancies notified to my Department for County Donegal for the period in question was 53, of which 51 related to one company with plants in Buncrana and Carndonagh. However, I am also aware of 20 job losses announced in that period by a company in Newtowncunningham. The services of FÁS are being made available to assist in finding suitable alternative employment for workers affected at these plants. The State development agencies under the aegis of my Department are fully committed to encouraging the establishment and expansion of industry in County Donegal.
