476 Ms Burton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if his attention has been drawn to the reports of privately owned gambling clubs being established in Dublin and other locations in Ireland; and if such clubs are permissible within the Lottery and Gaming Act. [26459/03]
Legal advice indicates that privately owned gambling clubs are not subject to the Gaming and Lotteries Acts 1956-86.
I am informed by the Garda authorities that they are aware of a number of privately owned gambling clubs operating in this jurisdiction. The operation of these clubs has been closely monitored by the Garda authorities.
