Vol. 574 No. 1

Written Answers. - Electronic Communications Infrastructure.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

180 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources the position regarding proposals to base the European network and information security agency at the digital hub in Dublin; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26279/03]

The European Commission, following European Council resolutions on network and information security, has proposed the establishment of a European network and information security agency which is to act as a European centre of expertise on network and information security issues.

The preparation of the legislation on the establishment of the agency is currently being discussed at working group level, following a first reading by the European Parliament. It is envisaged that revised text will be available for consideration by the Council at their next meeting on 20 November 2003. There has been no decision to date as to how the location of the agency will be determined.
