Written Answers. - Industrial Development.

Cecilia Keaveney

Question:

203 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the number of companies which the IDA has brought to Donegal since the beginning of 2003; the type of business in which they are engaged; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [26354/03]

IDA Ireland is the agency, which has statutory responsibility for the attraction of foreign direct investment to the State and its regions. Since the beginning of 2003 there have been five site visits to the Donegal region. Three of these were first time visits. The companies are in the medical technologies, digital media and international services sectors. The two remaining visits were repeat visits from companies in the contact centre and pharmaceutical sectors. Ultimately, it is the overseas investor who makes the final decision on where any project will locate, including what areas to visit as potential locations

The IDA continues to promote Donegal and the north-west region as a location for inward investment and I am confident that the strategies and policies being pursued by them, together with the ongoing commitment of Government to regional development will bear fruit in terms of attracting additional sustainable overseas investment for Donegal.
