Vol. 574 No. 3

Written Answers. - Home Help Service.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

215 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Health and Children his views on whether the 20% cut in real terms in the home help service in the South-Western Area Health Board in 2003 means that persons who availed of the service in 2002 and were judged to require the service have had that service withdrawn, even though the board knows that these persons require the service; if he will issue an instruction to the board that the service should be reinstated to those who have suffered from the cutbacks; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26988/03]

The provision of home help services in the region is the board's responsibility and it operates under the aegis of the ERHA. My Department has asked the authority's regional chief executive to investigate the matter raised by the Deputy and to reply directly to him, as a matter of urgency.
