Vol. 574 No. 5

Adjournment Debate Matters.

An Leas-Cheann Comhairle

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy O'Shea – the need to control excessive prices for alcohol, soft drinks and food being charged by some pubs, clubs and restaurants; (2) Deputy Finneran – the need to address the anomaly and cost factor that exists for insurance between the voluntary secondary school and the community or vocational school; (3) Deputy Cowley – to ask the Minister if it is intended to try and implement taxation on bean an tís in this year's budget, given that bean an tís are currently allowed to derive 10% of their total income from students learning Irish without being subject to tax and that the effect of the abolition of this tax relief for bean an tís would be to severely damage or completely destroy this valuable rural enterprise which fosters our national language; (4) Deputy Moloney – the need to provide funding for the inner relief road around Mountmellick in County Laois; (5) Deputy Richard Bruton – the need to replace immediately two disintegrating pre-fabs at Scoil Catríona, Coolock, by modern pre-fabs; (6) Deputy Broughan – the urgent need to bring forward the mercantile marine (amendment) Bill in view of allegations that the Irish flag is becoming a flag of convenience following recent additions to the Irish registry of shipping; (7) Deputy Jim O'Keeffe – the urgent need to proceed with the agreed extension to Clonakilty community college; and (8) Deputy Allen – the investigations carried out by the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government on the sale of two pieces of land by Navan UDC and Meath County Council to a company (details supplied) in 1995 and 1999, respectively, and the reasons why a full independent inquiry was not carried out.

The matters raised by Deputies O'Shea, Finneran, Richard Bruton and Jim O'Keeffe have been selected for discussion.
