Shortly after my appointment as Minister, I met senior representatives of the Prison Officers' Association, POA, to discuss a number of issues, including the SORT/STEP process. I also addressed the annual conference of the association in May 2003.
Senior officials from the Irish Prison Service regularly meet the association to discuss various matters relating to the prison system. I am next due to meet the POA, at its request, on Thursday, 20 November 2003.
