Vol. 575 No. 1

Written Answers. - Dublin Port Tunnel.

Willie Penrose

Question:

16 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Transport when the original Atkins report was published; when the first draft was submitted to his Department; the reason it was referred back; if he has now received a final report; when he expects to make a decision on this issue; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27845/03]

My Department engaged Atkins to review the feasibility, safety implications and cost of raising the height of the Dublin Port Tunnel. It has been requested to identify and review options for increasing the operational height of the tunnel, the feasibility having regard to the state of implementation of the current design and build contract, the additional costs likely to arise and the likely impact on the current project completion date.

Following consideration of a draft report, which was received in my Department on 20 October 2003, Atkins is now preparing its final report. This will be completed shortly and will provide a basis for deciding whether an increase in the operational height of the tunnel is feasible.
