Vol. 575 No. 1

Written Answers. - Departmental Estimates.

Joe Costello

Question:

78 Mr. Costello asked the Minister for Transport if he will make a statement on the Estimate for his Department for 2004. [27823/03]

Charlie O'Connor

Question:

177 Mr. O'Connor asked the Minister for Transport the priorities of his Department for the coming years in the context of the Estimates for 2004; if his attention has been drawn to the huge interest in these matters; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27940/03]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 78 and 177 together.

The 2004 Estimate has to be seen in the context of the ongoing delivery of the high level goals of the Department of Transport which are set out in detail in the Statement of Strategy 2003-2005. These relate to investment, safety, competition, regulation and reform, integration and delivery.
The Estimates provide over €2 billion in funding for transport related activities. This maintains a historically high level of investment in major transport infrastructure and my objective is to secure value for money and on time delivery of projects in pursuit of the high level goals which I have committed to.
For greater detail on specific projects, I refer the Deputy to my recent press release of 13 November. This, and the statement of strategy are available on my Department's website atwww.transport.ie
Question No. 79 answered with Question No. 30.
