Vol. 575 No. 3

Written Answers. - Decentralisation Programme.

Pat Breen

Question:

156 Mr. P. Breen asked the Minister for Finance the date on which he intends to proceed with the naming of towns that are included for decentralisation of Government services; if Kilrush, County Clare, will be included in his plans; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28348/03]

The Government remains committed to moving forward the progressive decentralisation of Government offices and agencies. As I said previously, a wide range of important issues, including the national spatial strategy, has to be considered before a final decision is taken on a new programme of decentralisation. Until the Government reaches a decision on this matter, I will not be in a position to state which towns will be included.

I am aware of the case made for Kilrush, County Clare, and it will be given full consideration, together with the submissions received on behalf of many other towns around the country, as part of the deliberations leading to a decision on the matter.
