Vol. 576 No. 1

Written Answers. - Services for People with Disabilities.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

195 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the needs of people with disabilities as set out by the Centre for Independent Living; if he can address the issues raised and offer assistance as required; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29091/03]

I support the efforts of disabled people's representative groups and individuals involved in developing the capacity for independent living for people with disabilities. My Department's main focus of support for such people is on the delivery of school based services that are directed at enhancing the educational development of students with disabilities.

In addition, my Department provided funding for an initiative undertaken by the Offaly Centre for Independent Living. It developed a comprehensive user-friendly handbook to inform people with disabilities about all the special education support services available in the Offaly area.

Question No. 196 answered with Question No. 193.
