Finian McGrath

Question:

159 Mr. F. McGrath asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will prevent the withdrawal of funding from the Edenmore day nursery, Edenmore, Dublin 5; if this nursery will remain open; and if all payments will be provided as a matter of urgency. [29375/03]

I have raised this matter with the Eastern Regional Health Authority which has advised me that Edenmore day nursery has been in operation since 1975. The nursery receives 90% funding towards its operational costs from the Northern Area Health Board, amounting to €185,000 for 2003, of which €167,000 has been paid as of the end of October 2003. The nursery also currently receives income from contributions from parents and community welfare supplement payments of the Department of Social and Family Affairs.

I understand from the Eastern Regional Health Authority that the Northern Area Health Board will continue to provide 90% funding towards the operational costs of the nursery.
