Vol. 576 No. 2

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Noel Grealish

Question:

196 Mr. Grealish asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government when he envisages work being carried out on the Claregalway sewerage scheme; if an adequate amount of money has been committed to fund this important project; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29378/03]

The main part of the Claregalway sewerage scheme is included in my Department's Water Services Investment Programme 2003 to 2005 as a major scheme to advance through planning at an estimated cost of €3.2 million. The element of the scheme relating to the provision of waste water services for new residential development has been approved for funding under the serviced land initiative component of the programme at an estimated cost of €1.4 million.

I approved Galway County Council's revised preliminary report for the scheme last September and it is now a matter for the council to proceed with the preparation of tender documents for stage 1 of the scheme.

The extension of the Tuam regional water supply scheme to Clarinbridge is included in my Department's Water Services Investment Programme 2003 to 2005 as a scheme to advance through planning. I approved Galway County Council's preliminary report for the scheme in September and it is now a matter for the council to proceed with the preparation of contract documents.
