Vol. 576 No. 2

Written Answers. - Organic Farming.

John Gormley

Question:

77 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the policy of his Department regarding natural organic seaweed plant products, given that research indicates they contain approximately 60 trace elements; and if he will meet a person, details supplied, to discuss the potential of such products. [29334/03]

Council regulation, EEC No. 2092/1991 as amended, regulates the organic sector in Ireland. Under this regulation, seaweed and seaweed products are allowed for use in soil conditioning and fertilisation. I have asked my officials to contact the person named to discuss the issue further.
