Vol. 576 No. 3

Written Answers. - Family Support Services.

Paddy McHugh

Question:

137 Mr. McHugh asked the Minister for Social and Family Affairs the reason funding is not made available to a centre, details supplied, in County Galway; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [29627/03]

Responsibility for the support, promotion and development of the family resource centre programme was transferred to the Family Support Agency on its establishment in May 2003. The area in question was identified as an area for inclusion in the family resource centre programme. A committee was formed to initiate and co-ordinate the provision of services to the community.

The centre in question was offered a three year funding contract in August 2002 to cover the period 2002 to 2004. The amount received in 2002 was €34,080, a start up grant of €20,580 and a grant for renovation of premises of €13,500.

The funding initially requested for 2003 by the centre of €60,900 was allocated to them. This funding is in line with the level of funding allocated to centres in their first year of operation. They also recently received €2,625 to cover additional costs which were not factored into their budget and €2,571 for computer facilities.
