Vol. 576 No. 5

Written Answers. - Port Development.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

304 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources if his attention has been drawn to the recent changes in the operation of tugs at Dublin Port; if the new procedure impacts on the major marine incident plan or the port emergency procedures; if his attention has further been drawn to the possible danger this presents to the port area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29831/03]

The tugs in Dublin Port are not declared as part of the major marine incident plan and changes in their port operations will have no impact. The port emergency procedures and the operations of the tugs in Dublin Port are under the jurisdiction of the management of Dublin Port and any changes in the operations of the tugs are for Dublin Port management decision and not for my Department.

The Dublin Port management has advised that it is confident it can deal with emergencies which may occur in its jurisdiction.
