Vol. 576 No. 5

Written Answers. - Airport Safety Zones.

Pat Breen

Question:

365 Mr. P. Breen asked the Minister for Transport if the ERM study that was commissioned by the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government will be implemented in public safety zones to Ireland's three main airports; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29695/03]

As I referred to in my earlier reply to the House on this issue on 4 November 2003, the Environmental Resources Management, ERM, report, which makes recommendations for public safety zones in the vicinity of Cork, Dublin and Shannon Airports is now complete. The report was formally submitted to my Department on 30 September 2003 and is still being examined.

It is intended that the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, subject to his and my approval of the report, will use its findings to issue, as soon as possible, planning guidelines to the local authorities to assist them in their consideration of the public safety aspects of planning applications in the vicinity of airports.
