Question:

110 Mr. Costello asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if she has received the report of the FÁS internal review of community employment and jobs initiative programmes; the main recommendations of the report; if it is intended to publish the report; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [29906/03]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 86 and 110 together.

A number of reviews of community employment are currently under way. The PPF provided for an overall appraisal of active labour market programmes, ALMPs to be carried out and this work is being undertaken under the aegis of the standing committee on the labour market, which is chaired by my Department. Indecon International Economic Consultants were commissioned by my Department on behalf of the standing committee to facilitate a rigorous assessment of the overall effectiveness of existing programmes, and to help inform the deliberations of the committee. The consultants' report was finalised and brought to the committee in November 2002. The standing committee is due to complete its work on the overall appraisal of ALMPs shortly. The FÁS internal review of the community employment scheme and job initiative programme is also nearing completion. The reports in question will be published upon completion of the review process.
