Question:83 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Finance his views on the case for indexation of the key parameters of the tax code in order to protect taxpayers from the impact of inflation. [30153/03]

I assume the Deputy is referring to indexation of the main personal tax credits and tax bands. Indexation of credits and bands is one policy option. It has not been pursued by any Government on an automatic basis as decisions on tax have to be made each year in the context of the overall budgetary situation and that is my position on the matter.
