Vol. 576 No. 6

Written Answers. - Flood Relief.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

150 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance if and the extent to which the Office of Public Works proposes to assist or initiate in the alleviation of flooding at Mill Lane, Leixlip, County Kildare and the various other locations at County Kildare which have been subject to flooding; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [30445/03]

Kildare County Council has undertaken to carry out an investigation of flooding at Mill Lane in Leixlip. When the report of this investigation is available, the Office of Public Works will consider what assistance can be given to the county council. I presume the other areas referred to by the Deputy are Straffan and Ardclough. In both cases, Kildare County Council has submitted information on flooding to the Office of Public Works. The problem at Straffan relates to surface water drainage. The proposed works are a matter for the county council, therefore. In the case of Ardclough, Kildare County Council was advised that the report did not contain sufficient detail to permit a full assessment of the problem or potential solutions and no commitment to funding could be given by Office of Public Works.
