Vol. 576 No. 6

Written Answers. - EU Presidency.

Michael D. Higgins

Question:

69 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for Finance the steps he intends to take during the Irish Presidency of the EU to re-establish the credibility of the Stability and Growth Pact; if he is planning to seek amendments to the pact; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [30085/03]

In the wake of the recent meeting of the ECOFIN Council, the position of the Stability and Growth Pact has been maintained. The Stability and Growth Pact will continue to be applied during the Irish Presidency. I do not rule out amendments to the pact in the future and I have supported proposals in the past when made by the Commission.
