Vol. 577 No. 5

Written Answers. - Hospitals Building Programme.

Enda Kenny

Question:

159 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Health and Children the situation regarding the proposed extension to Carndonagh Community Hospital; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [31916/03]

Responsibility for the provision of health services in the Donegal area rests with the North-Western Health Board. The board included, as part of its National Development Plan 2000-2006, a proposal to provide an additional 16 beds for persons with dementia from the Inishowen area of north Donegal. Earlier this year my Department received a completed draft accommodation brief for the project from the board.

At present my Department is examining the health capital programme for 2004 and beyond to ascertain what new projects can be progressed through either planning or construction stages. Existing commitments and available resources will be taken into account. My Department will continue to liaise with the board on the proposed development at Carndonagh in the light of its overall capital funding priorities.
