Finian McGrath

Question:

197 Mr. F. McGrath asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government the position regarding plans for electronic voting in elections in 2004; and if he has satisfied himself as to reliability. [31852/03]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 194 and 197 together.

An order approving the use of electronic voting in three constituencies at the 2002 general election was made on 16 May 2002 under section 36 of the Electoral (Amendment) Act 2001. An order dealing with use of electronic voting and other arrangements for the 2004 polls will be made in due course. I also refer to the reply to Questions Nos. 49, 59 and 68 of 26 November 2003.
