Vol. 577 No. 5

Written Answers. - Early School Leavers.

Mary Upton

Question:

80 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will give consideration to an application for funding under the CDAP for a post at a homework club (details supplied) in view of the important work done by this organisation. [31711/03]

In assessing applications for funding, consideration is given to Department supported interventions already in place in the areas concerned so as to avoid duplication of effort and resources. Where there is substantial overlap between the aims, objectives, the target group identified and the services provided by Department initiatives and applications submitted, it would be inappropriate for my Department to consider such applications for funding on a separate basis. My Department is considering the application referred to by the Deputy, with a view to establishing links with my Department's initiatives already in place in Dublin 8 to tackle educational disadvantage and early school leaving.
