Vol. 622 No. 1

Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

Before coming to the Order of Business I propose to deal with a number of notices under Standing Order 31.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to raise a matter of national importance, namely, why the Government has not carried out an audit of all fatal and serious road traffic accidents to determine the part played by road conditions in causing them, which audit has been demanded by me in this Chamber on many occasions, is needed in view of the gross underestimation of road conditions as the primary cause of fatal road accidents, and is urgent as the deaths due to road conditions are totally preventable and should not be allowed to happen.

I request the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to raise a matter of local and national importance requiring urgent consideration, namely, the need for the Government, including the Minister for Education and Science, to implement the commitment in An Agreed Programme for Government to reduce primary school class sizes and to debate the Minister's recent statement that she does not propose to implement that commitment in the lifetime of the Government.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to raise the following specific and important matter of public interest, namely, the need for the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government to ensure the importance of the heritage aspects of certain hotels of the Great Southern Hotels Group, which are protected under the Heritage Act 1995, are observed in any tendering process for the sale of such hotels being permitted by the Government.

Having considered the matters raised I do not consider them to be in order under Standing Order 31.
