Vol. 631 No. 4

Personal Statement by Member.

On a point of clarification, on 19 October 2006 during Priority Questions I referred to certain aspects of the loss at sea scheme. I stated:

This is a serious matter. It is a complete cover-up. Never in the history of the State has such a report issued from the Ombudsman clearly indicating the compliance of the Department and of senior civil servants in a cover-up on this scale.

I wish to withdraw that comment made on 19 October last.

On my own behalf and on behalf of the Minister of State and senior civil servants in the Department, I thank the Deputy for his statement. It was a source of grave concern to them and I want to acknowledge it and thank him for doing it.
