Vol. 657 No. 2

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Joe McHugh — the criteria used in drawing up the terms of reference for the post of special education needs organiser; (2) Deputy Thomas McEllistrim — the need for the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform to establish a special squad in the Garda force to deal with anti-social behaviour and public disorder, and to introduce this squad on a pilot basis in Tralee town; (3) Deputy Pat Breen — the closure of the Civil Service crèche in Ennis, County Clare, and the manner in which the closure was communicated to the parents and staff — two weeks' notice is not enough for the parents of the 47 children to find alternative child care and is not adequate for the 16 skilled staff faced with unemployment, many without a redundancy programme, and the Minister for Finance must review this decision and permit the temporary operator to remain in place until October when a permanent operator can be put in place; (4) Deputy Joe Costello — the need for the Taoiseach to outline the Government's plans for commemorating the centenary of the 1916 Rising; (5) Deputy Liz McManus — the need for legislation to create facilities for the disposal of chemical waste; (6) Deputy Andrew Doyle — the issue of Government funding of research for the treatment of muscular dystrophy, particularly regarding UK exon skipping trials; (7) Deputy Terence Flanagan — the need to maintain the number of teachers at St. Kevin's junior school, Donaghmede, and at St. Peter and Paul's national school, Baldoyle; (8) Deputy Arthur Morgan — the proposed closure of the Dóchas breast cancer unit at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, the necessity for the Minister for Health and Children to give a detailed explanation regarding why this is being done and the need for the Minister to outline whether she agrees that Dóchas is in fact a centre of excellence; (9) Deputy Michael D. Higgins — the decision to cease funding to language and integration teaching being delivered by Integrate Ireland Language and Training; (10) Deputy Ciarán Cuffe — the need to discuss the current political situation in Zimbabwe, specifically the lead-in to the Zimbabwean presidential run-off elections and the action the Irish Government has taken following the all-party motion passed by Dáil Éireann on 15 May 2008; and (11) Deputy Joanna Tuffy — the need for the Minister to provide an update on the need to ensure that the indigenous Irish lighting industry is included at all stages of consultation with industry on the proposed banning, or phasing out, of traditional light bulbs and that Irish jobs are protected when implementing the proposed changes.

The matters raised by Deputies Joe McHugh, Terence Flanagan, Michael D. Higgins and Liz McManus have been selected for discussion.
