Vol. 702 No. 1

Request to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 32.

Before coming to the Order of Business I propose to deal with a number of notices under Standing Order 32. I will call on Deputies in the order in which they submitted their notices to my office.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32 to raise a matter of national importance, namely, the appalling situation for the people of this country, in particular social welfare recipients who have been denied their entitlements. Farmers have been denied their agricultural grants and the elderly their pensions and medical cards, business people are crippled by service charges and levies, parents seek medical attention for sick children, students await maintenance grants, etc, while parliamentary questions of the utmost importance are returned to Deputies unanswered due to the forced industrial action taken by lower and middle income civil servants in defence of their incomes.

That is a serious matter.

Deputies

Hear, hear.

The Ceann Comhairle must allow that.

No wonder George Lee took flight.

There is an economics position available on the opposite side.

(Interruptions).

We shall hear another Deputy. Is Deputy Pat Breen present? No, he is not.

Having considered the matter raised I do not consider it to be in order under Standing Order 32.
