Topical Issue Matters

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 27A and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Timmy Dooley - the need to extend the fuel rebate announced in budget 2013 to bus and coach operators; (2) Deputy Michael McNamara - the necessity of HIQA standards which are problematic for some elderly care facilities; (3) Deputy Paschal Donohoe - the establishment of an information sharing system between the Irish Insurance Federation and the OPW in respect of flood alleviation and prevention works; (4) Deputy Mary Lou McDonald - the need for the State to provide an apology, pension and lost wages, a helpline to assist with health and housing needs, and a transparent redress scheme for the surviving women of the Magdalen laundries; (5) Deputy Jim Daly - the need to provide emergency funding to Cork County Council to deal with the crumbling road network in west Cork; (6) Deputy Dessie Ellis - the impact of the buy-to-let mortgage crisis on tenants' rights in the private rental sector and the need for a code of conduct for receivers who are given power to act by banks; (7) Deputies Gerald Nash and Pádraig Mac Lochlainn - the need for additional funding to be provided to UNWRA in order to support Palestinian refugees in Lebanon in view of the Syrian crisis; (8) Deputy Ciara Conway - the need to provide permanent accommodation for Gaelscoil Philib Barún, Tramore, County Waterford; (9) Deputy Ann Phelan - the need to ensure, by way of additional legislation if necessary, an adequate quality of windscreens in vehicles; (10) Deputy Patrick O'Donovan - the need to introduce changes to the social welfare code that will allow for provision of social insurance to cover for self-employed persons; (11) Deputy Éamon Ó Cuív - the need to instruct ComReg not to sanction a lower rent for landline telephone connections in towns and cities as compared to rural areas and to take legislative action if necessary to protect the flat rate charge; (12) Deputy Michael Moynihan - the progress being made in the new primary school amalgamation in Kanturk, County Cork; and (13) Deputy Mick Wallace - the provision of additional resources for students in respect of guidance counselling at Gorey Community School, County Wexford.

The matters raised by Deputies Timmy Dooley, Dessie Ellis, Paschal Donohoe and Michael McNamara have been selected for discussion.
