Vol. 1039 No. 6

Visit of South African Delegation

Roimh a bogfaimid ar aghaidh, I ask Members to join me in extending a céad míle fáilte to our colleagues from South Africa who have joined us in the Distinguished Visitors Gallery. Ms Pemmy Majodina MP is leading the delegation of members of the chief whips’ forum on a benchmarking study visit to the Houses of the Oireachtas. We welcome the group and hope their visit will be a fruitful one. They are accompanied by H.E. Ms Yolisa Maya, ambassador of South Africa.

I join the Leas-Cheann Comhairle in offering a céad míle fáilte, or a hundred thousand welcomes, to our guests from South Africa on behalf of the Government. I have had the privilege to visit their country just once, when I was a board member of the World Anti-Doping Agency, and had a chance to visit Pretoria, Johannesburg and Pilanesberg, but I have never been to the Cape, Natal or other parts of South Africa. I am really looking forward to another visit there sometime in the future, and would very much welcome the president to Ireland should he wish to visit at some point in the future.
