Vol. 1042 No. 1

Gnó na Dála - Business of Dáil

It is proposed, notwithstanding the Order of the Dáil of yesterday, that the proceedings on Report and Final Stages of the Policing, Security and Community Safety Bill 2023 shall, if not previously concluded, stand adjourned after two hours and 30 minutes.

Thank you. That is an addition of an-----

Ceann Comhairle, can I ask why?

That is an additional hour.

Can I ask why, though? That does not normally happen. They normally try to guillotine it.

If we do not want it, of course we can always say no.

It is to allow Deputies extra speaking time to debate the Bill.

It is not, because the Bill is to adjourn; it is not to conclude after 90 minutes.

That is what I am saying. We get as far as we can in 90 minutes.

There is no problem, like.

We are offering extra speaking time on the Bill and the debate will be adjourned. We are offering Deputies extra speaking time.

I am aware of that.

(Interruptions).

Can we not have a free-for-all, please? The Government is offering additional time, which is, I would have thought, welcome.

(Interruptions).

Like last Thursday morning. Housing questions and Opposition Deputies never showed up.

Surely the Opposition is not objecting to extra time.

(Interruptions).

Deputies do not mind staying around for an extra hour.

Question put and agreed to.
